Concessions

To run a commercial business or non-profit activity, occupy land or build a structure on conservation land you need to apply for permission (a concession) from DOC.

Research, collection and wildlife permits

You need permits to collect and/or undertake research on plants, animals or geological samples or to take, hold, release or kill protected species.

Prospecting, exploration and mining

Taking readings off rocks.

You need permission from DOC to use a prospecting, exploration or mining permit on public conservation land, or the foreshore and seabed.

Marine reserve scientific research permits

If you are monitoring or researching within a marine reserve you may need a permit under the Marine Reserves Act.

Permits for businesses wanting to view or interact with marine mammals

Marine mammal permits are needed to run a business for whale watching, swimming with dolphins, viewing seals or anything involving marine mammals.
