Getting there

The Manginangina Kauri Walk is in Puketi Kauri Forest.

If travelling south on State Highway 10, the forest is signposted 24 km south of Kaeo.

If driving north on State Highway 10, 1 km north of Waipapa, turn left onto Pungaere Road and follow it for 16 km. At the T-intersection, turn right, follow Waiare Road for about 1 km. There is a carpark on your right; the start of the track is across the road.

The walk can also be reached from State Highway 1. Take the Puketi Road turn, then left into Waiare Road. Follow Waiare Road past the Puketi Forest Headquarters on your left.

Plan and prepare

Help stop kauri dieback

Kauri dieback disease is killing our native kauri. It spreads by soil movement, but you can help prevent it.

  • Stay on the track and off kauri roots.
  • Clean your gear before and after visiting kauri forests.

Visit the kauri dieback website for more information on how you can help.

Notes

  • No dogs or fires due to risks to wildlife.
  • Please take care when you leave the State Highways as you will be travelling on unsealed roads.
