Kerikeri

The Kororipo-Kerikeri Basin is internationally of cultural and historical significance. The wider Kerikeri area offers a variety of great walking tracks and other recreation opportunities.


This includes links to other tracks in the area.

Description

You can stroll along the river bank to the spectacular Rainbow Falls, where the water tumbles into a pool surrounded by native bush. You may hear tui call, and see fantails flitting about while you walk. The path leads to viewing platforms.

This track equates to approximately 533 steps.

Plan and prepare

A parking and picnicking area is sited on the northern side of the bridge over the Kerikeri River. There are also parking and picnic facilities at the end of the Rainbow Falls Road.

Dogs are not permitted on the walking tracks in the Kerikeri Basin due to the risk they pose to kiwi and other wildlife.

What to expect on an easy access walk:

  • Easy walking for up to an hour
  • Track is well formed, with an even surface. Few or no steps or slopes
  • Suitable for people of all abilities and fitness
  • Stream and river crossings are bridged
  • Walking shoes required
